I studied science and environmental studies. After graduating I began to do volunteer work with the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and, for about a decade, continued to gain hands on plant knowledge through volunteer work with great organizations like the Presidio Native Plant Nursery, Friends of the Urban Forest, and Garden for the Environment (GFE). I completed GFE’s Gardening & Composting Educator Training Program, an immersive course on organic gardening, urban composting and urban agriculture. I also earned an Urban Permaculture Design Certification through the S.F. Permaculture Guild. Additionally, I worked in a local plant nursery for several years. And I have taken introductory coursework in art, landscape architecture, and plant identification.
